CRUDE: Echoes from the past

| November 2, 2016 9:00 PM

“If you wish the sympathy of the masses, then you must tell them the crudest and most stupid things.”

Does that sound familiar to anyone listening to the campaign speeches of one of the 2016 presidential candidates? It sounds rather cynical, but it seems to have worked for the man who wrote it. The quote came from the book he wrote before he became the leader of his country’s government. Will it work for someone in this country who has borrowed a page from that man’s playbook? Let’s hope not, because the author of that quote was none other than Adolph Hitler, who as the leader of Nazi Germany went on to create the greatest catastrophe this world has ever known.
