MILESTONE BIRTHDAY

Pat Randall

90th Birthday

Born at home on April 9, 1926, in Gamett, Kan., Pat is the daughter of a homemaker and oil truck driver. At the age of 12, Pat took her first paying job as a house helper. She was thrilled with her salary of $1 for an eight-hour day; this included lunch.

Pat later moved to Oregon and then Washington state which brought a variety of new experiences. She remembers that a Model T Ford was the first car that she drove; gasoline prices were 25 cents a gallon. One highlight of her earlier years was attending the University of Washington.

Pat first met Norm, (the love of her life), through a blind date at a roller skating rink. She knew he was the one for her! They were married two years later and recently celebrated their 70th anniversary. Norm is her soul mate, a loving and dedicated husband, whom she loves very much.

Pat moved to Pullman, Wash., where she spent the next 30 years raising three daughters, Paula, Marsha and Cindy. In addition, she has seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

At Washington State University, Pat worked for 15 years in the Office of Publications, as an editorial assistant. Through this career, she enjoyed the friendships of many professors and other department personnel.

While in Pullman, she was active with the Election Day Board and served as the Democratic Committee chairwoman. Reading for the blind at WSU was a particularly enjoyable experience.

Pat and Norm built a beautiful home on Lake Pend Oreille, where they retired. She loved the solitude of the lake. Birds and wildlife were plentiful. Winter was a special time, with snow blanketing the ground often for months. Her children and their families loved to visit and spend time with them at their lake paradise. After 10 plus years of wonderful lake memories, Pat and Norm moved to Coeur d’Alene, where they still reside.

Pat’s passion for camping and fishing introduced her to many places in the Pacific Northwest, Idaho Panhandle, even a few places in California and Montana. The St. Joe River is her favorite camping and fishing location. It was not unusual for them to camp on the St. Joe two to three times every season.

Pat really enjoys reading and politics. It is when asked about her children and grandchildren, Pat really gets passionate. She loves to talk about their activities and show pictures of them. Until recently, camping with family was her pride and joy. Her daughter, Cindy, lives close by and visits often, helping out when needed and providing companionship.

When Pat was asked to impart a few words of wisdom, her reply was “Believe in God and yourself.” Happy 90th Birthday, Mom! We love you to the moon and back!
