ITD aviation academy enrollment underway

| May 25, 2016 9:00 PM

It’s not too late for high school students ages 14-18 to learn about aviation and space-related careers by attending the annual Aviation Career Exploration Academy June 13-15 in Boise.

The deadline for enrollment is extended to May 27 for the program, which is sponsored by the Idaho Transportation Department’s Division of Aeronautics.

Students will go on field trips to places like the Boise Airport terminal, a flight school, a military aviation facility and an air traffic control tower. Other activities include seminars on aviation careers and colleges, and participating in an aircraft flight and a hands-on satellite balloon project.

A $60 registration fee is due upon a student’s acceptance to the academy. Scholarship assistance is available. A limited number of host families also are available for students attending from outside the Treasure Valley.

For more information, call the Division of Aeronautics at (208) 334-8775, or visit www.itd.idaho.gov then click on Aeronautics, Safety and Education, and ACE Academy for more information and the application.
