Betty Jean Nelson-Hoffman, 86
Betty Jean Nelson-Hoffman, 86, of Spokane Valley, Wash., passed away March 18, 2016, at Hospice House in Spokane, Wash. Betty was born on Nov. 11, 1929, in Palouse, Wash., to Malcolm M. and Wilma Grace (Arp) Quincy.
Betty spent her early childhood years in Palouse, Sanders, Idaho, Fernwood, Idaho, Tensed and finally Plummer, Idaho, where she attended and graduated from Plummer High School in 1947. Betty first met O.E. “Ed” Nelson and they were married on Jan. 21, 1947. They were married 45 years when Ed passed away in 1992. She later met Fred Hoffman and they were married Jan. 19, 2013.
Betty moved with her husband and young children living in Elgin, Ore., then Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and eventually settling in Spokane.
She prided herself as a great bookkeeper, and served as a bookkeeper for many businesses throughout the years. In her later years, she was also a business owner and entrepreneur.
Betty was a Boy and Girl Scout leader, a member of the Pythian Sisters and a member of the PTA. She loved boating, waterskiing, snow skiing, bowling, golf, sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting, playing bridge and ballroom dancing.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Hoffman of Spokane; one daughter, Lynda Jean Gilbert of Spokane; 11 grandchildren, Troy, Tonia, Brenda, Chris, Haydn, Sheldon, Kimberly, Michelle, Angela, Jeff and Erin; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and three daughters-in-law, Sandra Nelson, Candice Nelson and Nancy Nelson. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; and three sons, Craig Edward, Kelly Nash and Bary Dean Nelson.
A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Bell Tower Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, at Bell Tower Funeral Home, 3398 E. Jenalan Ave., Post Falls, Idaho. Burial will be at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
