Walsh appointed to magistrate post
COEUR d'ALENE — Coeur d'Alene Attorney Mayli Walsh has been selected to replace Kootenai County Magistrate Judge Scott Wayman.
Walsh has worked as a trial lawyer in the Kootenai County Public Defender's Office since 2008 and was announced Monday to fill the magistrate judge vacancy created by Wayman's recent appointment to Shoshone County District Judge. Earlier this month, Walsh was interviewed publicly for the position by the First District Magistrate Commission along with three other finalists.
"I'm really honored to be selected to serve as magistrate," Walsh told The Press Monday. "I look forward to serving our community and I will strive every day to uphold the duties that have been entrusted to me."
At the public defender's office, Walsh served as the trial lawyer in numerous high-profile cases, most recently the case of Jonathan Renfro — the man accused of shooting and killing Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore last year.
Before obtaining her position with the county, Walsh worked as a law clerk. She graduated from law school at the University of Idaho and has five children with her husband, Sean.
