STATE PREP GOLF: Post Falls boys in fourth after first day
• 5A
Post Falls’ boys are in fourth place, and Trojan senior Joseph Glenn is tied for eighth after the first day of the state 5A golf tournament Monday at BanBury Golf Course in Eagle.
Glenn, who finished 11th at state last year, started slowly, with two double bogeys on the first five holes. He closed the front nine with three straight birdies and finished at 37-39—76, 5-over par.
“He didn’t kill himself with that score, he’s still in the mix ... and he’s putting great,” Post Falls coach Maria Kostina said.
Carson Barry of Rocky Mountain leads after shooting a 3-under 68.
Post Falls shot 321, seven strokes ahead of Vallivue of Caldwell for fourth place. Rocky Mountain leads with a 302, followed by Lewiston at 310 and defending champion Eagle at 312.
“We just didn’t have the ‘A’ games today, just had to struggle to post the scores we posted,” Kostina said. “We are top four so we are playing with leaders, but we are underdogs, no pressure on us. We didn’t have our ‘A’ games, and we’re still in the mix.”
Drew Harris shot 81 for Post Falls, and Cameron Flores, Tanner Byers and Chase Bomar each shot 82.
“Conditions were tough,” Kostina said. “The wind was swirling, and the greens are surprisingly very grainy. Some putts broke uphill.”
Post Falls’ girls, led by Savanna Routh’s 87, are tied for seventh out of nine teams.
“The girls have already exceeded expectations,” by just getting to state, following their first regional title in 10 years. “Our goal is to get as much experience as we can.”
Tournaments in all four classifications conclude today with another 18 holes.
