GREEN: Cannot support candidate
I supported John Green for sheriff in 2012; I even made a large campaign donation.
Why I cannot support Green again:
1. Green represented Phil Hart during Hart’s tax evasion case.
2. In a video entitled “Innocence Revealed,” advocating that tax evaders aren’t tax evaders if they don’t think they are, Green states: “It should come as no surprise to you that according to the Supreme Court … that working for a living is a fundamental, constitutionally protected right, and therefore constitutionally exempt from taxation.”
3. Standing up to the Feds is admirable; itching for a fight is irresponsible.
4. A solo attorney with no recent law enforcement experience, I question his ability to manage 306 employees.
5. I am put off by the myopic and fatalistic view that conspiracy candidates bring to county government.
Sheriff Ben Wolfinger is an involved member of our community.
• Wolfinger is cognizant of the burden of taxation.
• A good manager, often praising his staff
• Deputies and staff tell me they like working for Sheriff Wolfinger.
• He wears his uniform, works the street and teaches traffic law in Driver’s Ed.
• Ben is a proven leader; his knowledge of Idaho law is truly impressive.
• Sara and I see Ben and Mary Wolfinger at charity events.
Finally, that large donation that I mentioned? Although I have a receipt for the $500 contribution, it is not on Green’s campaign finance reports. I do not know if there is a connection between this and John Green’s other questionable views, but I am concerned that someone who purports to be capable of managing a $26,000,000 budget can’t seem to keep a $13,000 campaign straight.
