• A Canadian man was arrested Sunday after finding a wallet on the floor of the Coeur d’Alene Casino.

Instead of returning the wallet or turning it over to security, the man allegedly removed the cash before placing the wallet in a garbage can. According to video surveillance, the wallet had fallen from the lap of an elderly woman in a wheelchair.

Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies and casino security returned $480 to the elderly woman, but $200 was reportedly not recovered.

• Two men were issued misdemeanor citations Sunday for possession of illegally taken bass. The men told sheriff’s deputies they obtained the two largemouth bass by spearing them near Mokins Bay on Hayden Lake.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputy asked the two if they were aware it is illegal to spear fish for game fish and both reportedly claimed they were not aware of that fact.

• A Coeur d’Alene woman was arrested Sunday for domestic battery in the presence of a child, and cited for malicious injury to property after driving her vehicle through a garage door.

Kootenai County deputies responded to the 1400 block of Timber Lane in Coeur d’Alene Sunday morning to an alleged domestic dispute. The 30-year-old woman allegedly slapped the victim before driving through the garage door because she was reportedly locked out of the house. The damage to the vehicle and the garage door was estimated by the victim at $3,500.

• An alleged dispute, which began Saturday over a pack of cigarettes, led to charges filed against both individuals involved.

A man and woman were charged Monday with domestic battery in the presence of a child after the female called and reported the incident.

A Kootenai County sheriff’s deputy responded by phone to the female’s claim that the male had been at a residence on Cloverleaf Road in Hauser Lake Saturday to visit her and the child they have in common. The male allegedly confronted her about a pack of cigarettes missing from a table on the front patio, which she denied taking, and a verbal argument ensued.

The argument is reported to have escalated to from verbal to physical when the male bit her hand, after which she slapped him. When the man was contacted by the deputy, he claimed the female was yelling at him and he wasn’t sure why, and allegedly pushed her hand away from him before she slapped him. He reportedly told the deputy he then slapped her in return.

Due to conflicting stories, the deputy was unable to determine who the predominate aggressor was, so both individuals were charged.
