Asper, a sophomore from Lake City High, was named to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the winter quarter, the conference announced on Friday. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 cumulative grade point average or better and meet the requirement of playing in at least half of the team’s competitions. For track and field or cross country athletes, they must have at least competed in the Big Sky Conference Championship meet.

Chad Chalich

Chalich, a senior quarterback from Coeur d’Alene High, completed 7 of 20 passes for 56 yards and carried the ball six times for 24 yards in the Grizzlies spring game on April 23 in Missoula.

Louie-McGee, a redshirt freshman wide receiver from Lake City High, returned the opening kickff 99 yards for a touchdown during the Grizzlies spring game on April 23. He also had touchdown catches of 71- and 67-yards, finishing with 175 yards in the game. It was his second straight scrimmage over 100 yards.

Josie Brown

Brown, a freshman from Coeur d’Alene High, won the 1,500 run at the Cougar Invitational on April 30 in Pullman in a time of 4:41.37. Brown was also named to the 2015 All-Academic Athetic team this year.

Derek Bayley

Bayley, a sophomore from Lakeland High in Rathdrum, finished tied for 19th with a four-over 288 in the Pac-12 Championships, which concluded on May 1 at The Country Club in Salt Lake City. Washington State finished ninth as a team in the tournament.

Bekah Kastning

Kastning, a junior outfielder from Lakeland High in Rathdrum, was named to the Midwest Region second team by the Division II Conference Commmissioners Assocation. Already 10th on the school’s career hits list after three seasons, Kastning batted .419 with five home runs, 30 RBIs, 52 total hits and 32 runs scored. She also had a school-record 24-game hitting streak that extended from Feb. 27 through April 23. Hillsdale finished with a 26-12 record, its best winning percentage since 1991, and most total wins since 2002.

Nicholas Gosselin

track and field

Gosselin, a senior from Lake City High, won the 400-meter dash in 48.40 seconds at the Linfield Open on Saturday in McMinnville, Ore. Gosselin was first out of 20 competitors, and produced a season-best performance for the second day in a row after running a 48.56 a day earlier in the Oregon Twilight meet. He was also part of the school’s winning 4x400 relay team, which was first out of nine teams in 3:17.42 at Linfield.

Kaidan Kelsey

Kelsey, a freshman from Lakeland High in Rathdrum, set a new school record in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 1/4 inches at the Linfield Open on Saturday in McMinnville, Ore. Kelsey finished second in the event and finished 13th in the long jump at 14-3 1/4.

Vanessa Shippy

Shippy, a sophomore infielder from Lake City High, was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District softball teams. Shippy, who holds a 3.91 grade point average, is batting .416 and leads the Big 12 Conference with 46 runs scored.

Casey Stangel

Stangel, a junior pitcher, infielder, outfielder, was named to the Academic All-District team. To qualify, student-athletes must have a 3.5 grade point average. Stangel has started 40 games for the Huskies — 17 in the outfield, 15 as the designated player and six as the starting pitcher. In the circle, Stangel owns a 6-3 record with 17 appearances, which is third-most on the team. At the plate, she is batting .310 with 27 runs batted in.
