PREP SOFTBALL: Timberlake captures 3A district title

| May 11, 2016 9:15 PM

BONNERS FERRY — Glori Cheevers was clutch, and the Timberlake Tigers are heading back to the state 3A tournament for the 16th straight season.

Cheevers had RBI double in the sixth inning and drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth as the Tigers beat the Bonners Ferry Badgers 5-4 on Tuesday to win a third district title in four years. Shelby Salois struck out nine for Timberlake (12-6), which advances to state at Ward Park in Pocatello next Friday and Saturday.

“Glori, she was just clutch for us today,” first-year Timberlake coach Casi Reisenauer said. “I can’t say enough about Shelby and the way she pitched. She was lights out. That’s the best we’ve competed against them this season, and we made it happen. I’m proud of those kids.”

Timberlake went 0-3 vs. Bonners Ferry in Intermountain League play.

Bonners Ferry will host Priest River, which eliminated Kellogg earlier on Tuesday, in the second-place game on Thursday, with the winner advancing to a state play-in game Saturday in Lewiston.
