PREP SOFTBALL: Timberlake, Bonners Ferry advance
BONNERS FERRY — Matraca Rocheleau went 4 for 4 with five RBIs, including a two-run double in the fourth inning, as No. 2 seed Timberlake defeated No. 3 Priest River 12-3 in the first round of the 3A District 1 softball tournament Monday at Bonners Ferry High.
Glori Cheevers went 3 for 4, and Brittany Hibdon struck out nine for Timberlake (11-6), which plays defending district champ and top seed Bonners Ferry today at 4 in Bonners in the championship game. Bonners Ferry defeated No. 4 seed Kellogg on Monday.
“We did a pretty good job of staying on their pitcher,” Timberlake coach Casi Reisenauer said. “They had a new pitcher that we hadn’t seen all year, and we were able to jump on that kid pretty quickly. Shelby Salois had a single and a double that got us going in the first and third innings, and Matraca Rocheleau had a great day all-around.”
