Paul Maurice Scalph 78
Paul Maurice Scalph was born on Mother’s Day May 11, 1937 in Alliance Nebraska and passed away 10 days shy of his 79th birthday on May 1, 2016 at Hospice House in Coeur d’ Alene Idaho. Paul was the fourth of 8 children born to Leonard and Helen (Babcock) Scalph. When Paul was about 7 years old he and his family moved from Nebraska to New Plymouth, Idaho. He grew up in New Plymouth and graduated from Fruitland High school in 1955.
Paul joined the army in May 1956 and served until May 1958. During this time he was stationed in Washington, California, Texas and Missouri. After leaving the Army he married Reina Cottrell. Together they have two boys, Rex and Curtis. He spent many years Ranching and Farming in Nyssa, Oregon. Paul loved to be on his farm and loved to show off his horses, cows, kittens and sheep to visitors. He was very fond of children and all animals. In 2005, he moved to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and spent his retirement making rocking horses for children. He also enjoyed playing pool, fishing, swimming and sitting out in the sun and visiting with any neighbors that came by alongside his little dog Peewee. He and Peewee also enjoyed riding around town on Paul’s little 4 wheeler with Peewee in the basket on front.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Helen Scalph, older sister La Nora, one older brother, James (Jim) Scalph and two younger sisters, Marilyn Arveseth and Carolyn Clow.
Paul is survived by wife, Reina of Grand Junction, Colorado, sons Rex Scalph (Virginia) of Casper, Wyoming and Curtis Scalph of Payette, Idaho; older brother Jack Scalph of Hot Spring Arkansas; younger sister, Judy Rich of Rathdrum, Idaho; younger brother Lynn Scalph of Fairfield, Iowa; many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews.
His memorial will be held in his honor at 1pm on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Calvary Rathdrum 15095 N McCartney St, Rathdrum, Idaho 83858.
