Everson's Jewelry set to close
After 70 years in downtown Coeur d’Alene, third-generation Everson’s Jewelry is closing.
It started in 1946 when brothers Ken and Clair Everson bought a jewelry store where the Wells Fargo Bank is now at Third and Sherman Ken, a watchmaker, had returned to his hometown after World War II. The store later moved to where the Pita Pit headquarters is now at Fourth Street and to its current location at 310 Sherman in 1973. The retiring owners are Bill and Gary Everson. Fourteen other family members have worked in the store.
The retirement sale starts now, and the final date is July 2. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Phone 664-5093. Check www.eversonsjewelry.com. The building has sold.
Moving from the basement July 1, the trophy shop Custom Den will relocate to Riverstone with Gary and Brent Everson. Watch for details.
Skippers moves inside the mall
Skippers fish eatery has moved from its 26-year location on a pad on the Highway 95 side of Silver Lake Mall to the food court inside the mall.
Owners Darrell and Marcie Oyler sell seafood and chowder 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Their place (phone 762-3445) is in the former Flaming Wok space next to Barbara’s Homemade Fudge & Divinity.
Evidently Vickey’s Barbecue Pit will move into the former Skippers’ building. Details here later.
Electric Gentlemen in Plaza Shops
The men’s clothing store Electric Gentlemen will celebrate its grand opening Friday in the northeast corner of the Resort Plaza Shops downtown.
Owner Dave Gove will offer Selvige Denim and complimenting apparel. He said it’s a collaboration of styles that make a statement of attitude in an uncomplicated, subtle way.

Benjamin Powell Galleries to open
Large print, fine art, landscape, scenic and nature photography prints will be offered at Benjamin Powell Galleries. The store will celebrate its grand opening during Artwalk this Friday at 413 Sherman Ave.
A self-taught professional photographer for four years, Powell is a three-time Marine Corps combat veteran with a heavy background and education in art. Summer hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Phone 215-5429. Check www.benjaminpowellphotography.com.
Premier Discount open on Pleasantview
Discounted prices on new, returned and functional items are offered at Premier Discount Center at 674 N. Pleasantview Road on the west side of Post Falls.
The inventory includes furniture, tools, electronics, kitchen items, toys, bedding, shoes, yard and garden items, neon clocks, signs and more. The store also can cash-purchase items from customers.
Owners are Nate and Kym Nagel and parents Ron and Eileen Taylor, who also have Premier Auction Center next door. Hours are 11 a.m.to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone 777-9960. Watch the sign out front for the grand opening.

- Bitterroot Cutlery will close May 31 at 4055 Government Way. Products include fine kitchen cutlery, pocket and hunting knives, self-defense and martial arts supplies, swords and paintball supplies. The 20-year-old store is owned by Barney Barner. Phone 667-3887.
- Hmm. Election signs at businesses: Are potential customers encouraged or discouraged to give the place business because of the signs?
- Capitalize pronouns such as Dad and Mom when they take the place of a name such as “I love you, Dad.” But otherwise they’re lowercase such as “I love my dad.”
- Ah. Granddaughter Lucia was born Tuesday (May 3) to daughter and son-in-law Mariah and Jacob Rosenblum in Seattle. All is fine. Yea!
- Don’t light a slash pile with a gallon of gas. I blew myself up so we almost had an obit and a birth the same day.
