LEWISTON — With its chance to clinch home field advantage throughout the 5A Region 1 tournament, the Coeur d’Alene Vikings came up short as they were swept by the Lewiston Bengals 3-2 and 6-2 on Friday at Church Field, giving the top seed to the Bengals.

“The difference today was, they got the big hit and we didn’t,” first-year Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin said. “What it boils down to in baseball is, every game boils down to one pitch. And we were on the wrong side of that pitch in both games.”

Coeur d’Alene (15-8, 7-5 5A IEL) finished as the third seed, and plays at second seed Lake City (14-8, 7-5) in the opening round on Monday at 4 p.m. The teams finished tied for second in league, each beating the other twice, but Lake City won the tiebreaker over Coeur d’Alene via run differencial in their four head-to-head meetings.
