FILLIOS: The right choice

| May 6, 2016 9:00 PM

It is time to focus on the upcoming Primary for Kootenai County commissioners. History shows that the winning candidate will be selected in the Republican Primary on May 17.

Chris Fillios is my choice in the two-person race in District 2. He foresees inevitable growth in our county and will guide responsibly in balancing growth with private property rights and the preservation of our rural lifestyle. He has taken an active interest in this process for many years. Chris’ opponent, incumbent David Stewart, has managed to alienate the rural community with disregard of property owners and their interests and concerns.

Chris Fillios respects the proper use of zoning to protect property values and individual property rights. His opponent has indicated his distaste for zoning; his statements at forums have led me to believe that he would approve all Conditional Use Permit requests. This will lead to a very unpleasant lifestyle in the county and will force people to purchase in planned unit developments to protect their property investments. It would also encourage residents to move into city limits to maintain a stable living environment. Mr. Fillios recognizes that we can accommodate and respect the interests of all concerned with a reasoned and fair approach to development.

I urge you to join me in electing Chris Fillios for county commissioner on May 17.
