Day of appreciation for veterans Saturday

COEUR d'ALENE — It's North Idaho's time to shine for local veterans and their families.
The 23rd annual North Idaho Veterans Stand Down will be on Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.
"It's a day of appreciation for veterans," said Kecia Siegel, an event organizer. "Last year we incorporated kids games into it and there will be family activities this year as well."
A free brunch will be served.
"All veterans are welcome to attend," Siegel said. "There will be services available for all veterans."
Service organizations that provide medical, dental, housing, clothing, clothing repair, food assistance, haircuts, massages, bike repair and limited veterinary services will be available. Attendees should bring a DD214 or military or Veterans Affairs identification.
There will also be free military surplus supplies for homeless or disadvantaged veterans.
The Stand Down serves as a kickoff to a program created by St. Vincent de Paul to assist veterans and their families in the five northern counties with services throughout the year.
"It is an opportunity for the community to come together and show their appreciation to all veterans who have served their country," a press release states.
