Newby-ginnings celebrates grand opening in Post Falls
POST FALLS — Newby-ginnings of North Idaho celebrated its grand opening Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new location in Post Falls.
With hundreds in attendance, the event was honored by a motorcycle procession of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association along Riverbend Avenue.
"What a testament to the community for the work they do for our veterans," said Newby-ginnings founder and director Theresa Hart. "This was a larger turnout than expected."
Also attending the grand opening were Sen. Bob Nonini and Post Falls Mayor Ron Jacobson, who welcomed Newby-ginnings to its new River City home.
Texas Roadhouse in Coeur d’Alene donated a buffet lunch onsite for 100 people.
Growing by leaps and bounds since its inception just three years ago — and responding to the needs of area veterans, active military and gold star families — the nonprofit has taken the opportunity to double its space by leasing a building from the Jacklin Land Co. just west of the outlet mall near the state line. This larger facility will not only allow for an increase in available inventory of essential household items, but will provide a comfortable reception area and private meeting spaces for clients and community partners.
Founded by Hart in October 2013 in memory of her son, Spc. Nicholas Newby, who was killed in action in Iraq in 2011, Newby-ginnings has provided services to more than 1,200 veterans, active servicemen and women and gold star families in the area.
"We have found that Newby-ginnings does not just provide services to our veterans, it provides an equally valuable service to our community," Hart said. "It provides a way for our citizens to give back and show their appreciation for those that have served and sacrificed for our country."
Newby-ginnings of North Idaho is now located at 570 S. Clearwater Loop, Unit A.
