PREP ROUNDUP: Viking teams 3rd at Strandberg

SPOKANE VALLEY — Zac Magee won in the 400-meter run and Grady Leonard won the shot put and discus for the Coeur d’Alene boys and Amber Mallet won the pole vault for the Viking girls as both teams brought home third-place finishes at the Strandberg Invitational on Saturday at Central Valley High.

Coeur d’Alene will compete in the District 1 All-Star meet on Thursday at Post Falls High.

Johnson/Fagan fifth at

Inland Empire tourney

SPOKANE — Hannah Johnson and Kayla Fagan of Coeur d’Alene brought a consolation championship home with them on Saturday in the Inland Empire tournament at Mt. Spokane.

The pair defeated a girls doubles team from Central Valley, 6-1, 6-4, to take fifth in the tournament.

They also won 6-3, 6-2, over a team from Selah (Wash.)

In other action, Sarah Swider and Lauren Carlsen lost to a team from West Valley, 6-1, 6-4, in the consolation final, ending up in sixth. In the consolation semifinals, they beat a team from Connell, 6-1, 6-3.

“I think the girls were thrilled to be in the tournament day two,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Laura Taylor said. “To have both of them in the consolation championship, I’m happy for both of them.”

Coeur d’Alene plays at Post Falls on Tuesday.

The Lake City mixed doubles team of Chris Vargas and CC Cates beat a team from Sandpoint 6-3, 6-3 in a match at Mt. Spokane High to finish seventh.

Earlier, Vargas and Cates lost to a team from Post Falls 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 in the consolation semifinals.

Sandpoint finished 15th, the highest among Idaho schools. Cassidy Story led the way with a seventh-place finish at No. 1 girls singles, while Laney Search and Khloe Kyllonen lost two close matches at No. 1 girls doubles.

• LACROSSE

Lake City beats Borah, falls to Emmett at home

COEUR d’ALENE — Braedyn Buer had four goals and Cameron Chun chipped in three goals and two assists for Lake City in an Idaho Lacrosse League win over Borah 10-1 at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Danny Torres had four assists for Lake City in the win.

In other action on Saturday, Buer and Matt Duchow had two goals each for Lake City in a 10-7 loss to Emmett in another league match.

Zack Jewkes scored seven goals for Emmett.

Lake City (7-3, 6-2 ILL) hosts Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday.
