ANNA: A true inspiration
It is with much sadness that I heard the world lost Anna aka Patty Duke. My sorrow won’t come as a surprise to all who were close to her. It is because of her performance in The Miracle Worker that I dedicated 25 years of my life to being an interpreter for the deaf.
Many of my students graduated from North Idaho College and other colleges. I had the pleasure of speaking with her on several occasions. One day in Coeur d’Alene, my granddaughters were with me and my friend said, “We have to get your pictures with her.” My granddaughter looked at her and said, “Why are we having our picture taken with you?” Her answer was, “Because I am a good reader and I love books.”
I am in Mexico part time now where my work continues with Sordo Mundo (deaf people). God Bless her and her loved ones.
A fan forever,
STACEY ARMSTRONG
