PREP TENNIS: Sandpoint tops Coeur d'Alene

COEUR d’ALENE — Bracken Curtis was the lone winner for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings, beating Cory Diehl of Sandpoint 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 boys singles match on Wednesday at Coeur d’Alene High.

Sandpoint beat Coeur d’Alene 11-1 in the match.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t win a single match,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Laura Taylor said. “It was good to get out there and play. It was nice to get the cobwebs and now that we got that first match under our belt, we should have some good matches.”

Coeur d’Alene plays April 6 at Moscow.

RATHDRUM — The Hawks swept in girls singles in a loss to the Cougars at Lakeland High.

“We showed marked improvement today, even though Chewelah won both boys and girls matches,” first-year Lakeland coach Ryan Scaggs said. “Our boys doubles teams played pretty well, and our girls singles were dominant. We talk a lot about just getting better everyday and taking advantage of the opportunities in front of you. Today, I think we made great strides in the positive direction compared to our start last week.”

Today, Lakeland’s girls will host West Valley and the boys will travel to West Valley.
