SWIMMING

Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team: This past weekend the Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team Crocs took six swimmers to Federal Way, Wash., for the annual Short Course Swimming Championships. This is the highest level meet that young swimmers can achieve.

Competing against the 500 best swimmers in their age groups from all over the Western United States, standout Logan Robillard (11) placed 8th in 500 free finishing in a remarkably fast time of 5:41.17 and 8th in the 200 free in 2:09.44. Logan also finished an impressive 15th in the 50 free in 27.96, 19th in the 100 free in 1:01.18, and 19th in the 100 fly in 1:10.89.

Hailey Pierce (14) had another spectacular meet swimming to an 9th place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:14.85, 11th in the 100 back in 59.94, 10th in the 100 free 53.86, 11th in the 200 back in 2;10.92, 14th in the 200 free in 1:59.94, and 19th in the 50 free in 25.39.

Karter Rasmussen (14) swam to a 16th place finish in the 500 free in a 5:02.50, 24th in the 100 back in 59.82, and 26th in the 400 IM in 4:32.59. Karter performed this well despite dealing with a rib injury that prevented him from swimming as well as he could have. Sarah Gonzales (11) placed 19th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:19.30 and 23rd in the 50 breast with a time of 37.70. Cameron Craigie finished 24th in the 50 free with a time of 26.73. Micah Sharples (13) finished 24th in the 200 fly in 2:24.54 and 29th in the 200 back in 2:19.45.

For all these swimmers it has been an exhausting championship season with the regional championships two weeks ago, a meet this last weekend in Spokane and then this meet. For many they have competed 10 days out of the last 21 and are now looking forward to their spring break and a well deserved rest before beginning training for the long course season.
