Cd'A school attendance zones may change
COEUR d'ALENE — Residents will have an opportunity next week to discuss potential changes to elementary and middle school attendance zones in the Coeur d'Alene School District.
A community forum on the issue is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. March 21 at Lake City High School. According to a news release, as many as 450 families may be affected by the recommendations of the Attendance Zone Committee, which was formed by the board of trustees in 2015 to address growth in the district.
Since its founding, the committee has studied the district's growth challenges to recommend necessary adjustments to current attendance zones. The committee, according to the release, was tasked to make recommendations on the following four areas of focus:
1. Creating an attendance zone for the newly annexed West Landings area.
2. Adjusting transportation and attendance zones in the northwest portion of the district.
3. Re-aligning the current Winton attendance zone.
4. Balancing the middle school population by shifting attendance zones from Woodland to Lakes and Canfield.
The committee has offered two options to address elementary and middle school rezoning, according to the release. At this time, the options are only recommendations.
"The board of trustees has not taken action on any recommendation," the release states. "The school board may do so later this spring, once they have reviewed input from the families and neighborhoods impacted."
Any changes to the attendance zones would be implemented for the 2016-17 school year.
A summary of the attendance zone recommendations and maps are posted on the main page of the school district's website, www.cdaschools.org. Those wishing to attend the forum are welcome to arrive at 6 p.m. to review maps and the proposals.
