CARRY: Why the opposition?

| March 16, 2016 9:00 PM

I find myself wanting to write this morning after reading the story on the front page detailing Chief White’s and Sheriff Wolfinger’s hesitation regarding the Constitutional Carry bill.

First and foremost, I am offended as a legal firearms owner that Chief White speaks about detaining individuals because of a bulge in their outfit just because it appears to be a gun. If I am not breaking any laws, why in the world would you stop and search me asking for a permit. If an open carry individual is walking down the street with a sidearm on their hip, you are certainly not going to stop them to decipher if they are a felon or not. Your argument for detaining individuals once again screams of the current political climate that we have in the White House regarding gun laws that affect law abiding citizens but really do nothing about stopping felons from carrying firearms. They said it themselves in the article, FELONS DO NOT FOLLOW THE LAWS!

Why are these two opposed to legislation that would grant legal firearms owners the opportunity to protect themselves without requiring a permit? A legal firearm owner has already gone through a background check to determine validity to own said firearm in most cases, I just have to wonder if the opposition solely lies in the number of dollars the county is due to lose when folks aren’t paying for permits and fingerprints at the sheriff’s office?
