Karl Jessup, 70
I’m as free as a bird now, and this bird you cannot change. — Lynyrd Skynyrd
Karl Jessup passed away on March 6, 2016. Those who knew him, know of his loyalty, authenticity, strength and heart. In a world that often rewards conformity, Karl was unapologetically true to who he was and what he believed in. He spent his early life in Upstate New York, eventually moving out West. He started his career as an Illustrator in the Air Force, continuing to the Stanford University Department of Art. He moved on to have a life full of adventure and experience, which would shape his world view and his desire to live simply and honestly.
He eventually settled in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he became a husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of many trades — botanist, concrete and construction specialist, pool builder, mechanic, carpenter … he could do it all. He was also an artist and craftsman, often selling his garden sculptures at the Kootenai County Farmer’s Market in his later years. Karl had a remarkable energy and inherent strength that carried him through his entire life, forever and always living proudly and productively. He never stopped doing what he loved, and for those whom he loved.
He is survived by a large, extended family, and will forever live on through our shared love and memories.
You are so very missed. We love you.
