TRUSTEE: You can trust me
I’d like to address the March 4 Press editorial, which misrepresents my dedication to PFSD. I have always been an avid supporter of the Post Falls School District.
Prior to last year’s election, I went door-to-door to inform citizens of the virtues of the new school bond. I explained that the district has been a good steward of our tax dollars; our current needs; and lower interest rates. It passed by approximately 70 percent. Thank you Post Falls!
I attend the regular meetings, enjoy school events, all statewide SB meetings and Day on the Hill where we sit in on Legislative sessions involving school issues.
This year there is a bill which I support. The bill would allow funds to “follow the child.” If a parent chooses to send their child to a private school, the funds allocated per child would assist in paying the tuition. Parents know what is best for their child.
Idaho Constitution requires the establishment of free public schools. This does not preclude parental choice, however. This bill certainly does not call for “defunding public schools.” I would NEVER support that.
As a citizen and Board member, I’m an advocate for fairness for ALL children and families.
If a school is concerned there may be a mass exodus should parents be given choice, they should ask themselves “Why?” and address those problems.
I am not concerned this would happen in Post Falls. We are among the best in Idaho. I hope to continue serving and together we’ll strive to offer an excellent education for all our children.
