Webb, Thompson voted
All-Mountain West
LAS VEGAS — James Webb III and Mikey Thompson were voted All-Mountain West by the conference’s 11 head coaches, the league announced Tuesday. Webb, a fourth-year junior who played at North Idaho College as a freshman, was selected to the first team, while Thompson earned third-team honors.
Webb picked up the 27th first-team all-conference honor in program history, and became the 21st different Bronco to earn the distinction.
During Mountain West play Webb led the Broncos in scoring (16.1 per game), rebounding (9.8 per game) steals (1.6 per game) and blocks (0.7 per game). He tied for the conference lead with seven double-doubles in MW games. Last season the coaches selected Webb as the league’s Newcomer of the Year and second-team All-Mountain West.
The Bronco duo earned the same recognition in a separate vote conducted by media that covers the league. The media’s All-Mountain West teams were announced Sunday.
The media vote also tabbed Anthony Drmic as an honorable mention selection.
Boise State opens its stay at the Mountain West Championship on Thursday, in the quarterfinals. The Broncos will tip off at 8:30 p.m. PST against either No. 6 Colorado State or No. 11 San Jose State.
Colbert, Sanders, Jois, McBroom among Sky honorees
RENO, Nev. — Montana State senior point guard Marcus Colbert, the former Post Falls High star, was named to the All-Big Sky second team.
The 5-foot-11 Colbert averaged 16.9 points and 5.1 assists a game heading into Tuesday’s loss to Sacramento State in the first round of the Big Sky tournament.
Idaho sophomore guard Victor Sanders also earned All-Big Sky second team honors.
Sanders led the squad in scoring at 16 points per game during the regular season. He topped 20 points seven times, including four times in conference play. Sanders appeared in 24 games and scored in double-figures 21 times.
Eastern Washington seniors Venky Jois and Austin McBroom were named to the All-Big Sky team.
Jois was a first team selection for the second straight season, while McBroom, a graduate transfer, earned second-team accolades in his only season in the program. With 16 victories this year and a second-straight winning season, Eastern has 42 victories the last two seasons. Those are already the most in back-to-back seasons in the school’s 33 seasons as a member of NCAA Division I.
Idaho earned the No. 3 seed in the Big Sky Tournament and a first-round bye after winning 20 games for the first time since the 1992-93 season. The Vandals will take on Eastern Washington on Thursday night at 8 p.m.
