COEUR d'ALENE — Brittney Montee grew up in Coeur d'Alene, so she knows how much of a shock it is to the community when a shooting or other tragedy occurs.

"We're such a close-knit community, you think that things are picture-perfect, almost," she said this morning. "There's been so many tragedies in the last year that it's scary."

Montee is manager of Best Buzz Espresso, which is just down the street from The Altar Church where Pastor Tim Remington was shot six times Sunday. He's in stable condition at Kootenai Health. One of Montee's former employees attended the church and was involved in its programs, so the tragedy affected the Best Buzz family in many ways.

"Being so close to it, literally two blocks away, it was so scary that we are so close and you never know where things can happen," she said. "You never think a shooting's going to happen at a church."

On Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., half of the proceeds from Best Buzz's sales will be donated to the Remington family. Montee said she's grateful to Best Buzz's owner for giving the green light for the fundraiser. The employees will also be donating their time that day.

"Please come out and get your favorite drink and support a great man and his family in this time of need," reads a post on Best Buzz's Facebook page.

Best Buzz Espresso is located at 1289 E. Best Avenue.
