Area schools win district dance, cheer titles

When the state dance and cheer championship competitions take place later this month, Kootenai County will be well-represented.

Teams from Post Falls, Lakeland and Timberlake high schools all won first place in their classes Saturday at the Dance and Cheer District State Qualifier Competitions held at Lewiston High School.

The Lakeland dance team took first place in the prop, military and hip-hop categories, and brought home the overall 4A grand champion award. The team’s coach is Janelle Moffett.

The Post Falls dance team went home with first place in prop, military, hip-hop and kick and won the overall 5A grand champion award. Post falls team member Hailey Weitzel won top soloist. The Post Falls dance team coach is Heidi Wagner.

Both teams will be competing in the state competition in Nampa on March 19.

Timberlake High School’s cheer team qualified for first place in the co-ed show, co-ed stunt group and pom categories, bringing home the 3A grand champion trophy.

Lakeland High School is the 4A grand champion, qualifying with first place in all four routines: co-ed show, co-ed stunt group, sideline and pom. Debra Cashman is the head coach.

The cheer teams will be heading to Nampa also, to compete in the state competition at the Idaho Ford Center on March 18.
