Country music's Sawyer Brown to headline North Idaho Fair

| June 24, 2016 9:00 PM

The region’s summer entertainment scene will heat up when the North Idaho State Fair’s five-day run opens on Aug. 24.

The fair’s grandstand entertainment schedule will kick off with a concert by country music group Sawyer Brown.

The concert will be followed by the fair’s annual fireworks show, and for the first time, both the concert and fireworks will be included with admission as part of the fair’s new Community Appreciation Day.

The Sawyer Brown band has released more than 20 albums, has more than 50 chart singles, and multiple CMA, ACM and CMT awards.

“We pride ourselves on bringing new entertainment and attractions to the fair each year, and couldn’t be more excited about the lineup featured as part of our Community Appreciation Day. People can come to the fair and enjoy all of the fantastic attractions and exhibits that will be featured daily, and cap off their evening with a free headline concert and really spectacular fireworks display. It’s hands-down the best entertainment value in our community this summer,” said Dane Dugan, general manager, in a press release.

The excitement of bull riding comes to the fair Thursday with the Gem State Stampede Coeur d’Alene PRCA Xtreme Bulls. The event brings the toughest cowboys and meanest bulls in the business to Coeur d’Alene for a full night of one of rodeo’s most popular events.

Rodeo action continues Friday through Sunday with the Gem State Stampede Coeur d’Alene PRCA Rodeo. Three performances give fairgoers the full rodeo experience with bronc riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, bull riding, and more. The PRCA rodeo is one of the most popular events, and consistently sells out annually.

The fair’s finale event on Sunday night brings the crashes, smashes, twisting metal, and burning rubber of the Demolition Derby back to the arena. Reserved grandstand seating for this event also regularly sells out, and fans are encouraged to buy tickets early.

Bleacher seating for Xtreme Bulls, PRCA Rodeo and Demolition Derby is limited, and available only on a first-come basis. Tickets for guaranteed reserved seating in the covered grandstands are now available via the fair’s website, www.northidahostatefair.com, or may be purchased in-person at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds box office.

The 2016 fair, “A World of Fun!” runs Aug. 24-28, and will showcase entertainment and attractions from 11 different countries. The fair is also the host of the Gem State Stampede — two evenings and one matinee performance of sold-out PRCA rodeo action.
