Classic cars hit the streets for Car d'Lane Cruise

People packed the sides of the streets in downtown Coeur d’Alene with lawn chairs, strollers and an occasional cooler Friday evening. They were all there to see the beautiful, powerful and straight-up awesome cars that were part of this year’s Car d’Lane Cruise.
As the first cars rounded the corner of Second Street onto Sherman Avenue, people started clapping and pointing out which ones they liked the most.
Cars of all shapes and colors poured onto the street — some all black, another blue and orange, a few had flames on them and on others you could see their engines. One car looked like a clown car and another had an animal skull mounted on the back.
Some of the cars had fun license plates, like NU LIFE and LIL BUDA.
Passengers waved to the people in the crowd as drivers revved their engines, making the little kids cover their ears.
Sherri Pirolo has watched her husband, Mike, drive his 1961 Corvette in the cruise for the past 13 years. This year, Mike decided he wanted to be able to see all the cars.
“It’s very nice just looking at vintage cars. I mean, I’m dressed vintage,” Pirolo said, showing off her black and white, polka-dotted dress and her black Kentucky Derby hat. “Even though we aren’t doing this, we are going to park it tomorrow.”
Farther up the street, George Field and his two sons, Vladimir, 11, and Kaspar, 2, stood and watched in awe as all the cars went by. This was their first time coming to Car d’Lane.
George is an airplane mechanic and his son, Vladimir, loves classic cars, so George thought it would fun to bring his boys downtown for the big event.
Vladimir was most interested in the shinier cars and the ones that had flames painted on them.
His father pointed out the hearse that was driving by, explaining to him why the back was covered the way it was.
“Cool,” Vladimir said, as his attention was drawn to the old fire truck that was now in front of them.
As the evening went on and the sun went behind the clouds, people started to disperse, excited for today, when they could get a closer look at the amazing cars they had just seen.
The Car d’Lane Show and Shine will be on Sherman Avenue and East Lakeside Avenue stretching from First Street to Eighth Street today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Awards will be given out at 4 p.m. on Sherman Avenue and Fifth Street.
