ACADEMY: One more star
Thank you for the wonderful article about the local students who received appointments to the service academies. Congratulations to all of those students.
I would like to add my neighbor, Sarah Kladar, of Coeur d’Alene High School, to that list. Sarah was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy, via the Prep School, by Representative Raul Labrador and will graduate with the class of 2021. Sarah has been driven by the goal of graduating from Annapolis and becoming a Marine Corps Officer for many years. She has never wavered from that goal. To that end, Sarah has been a very active and influential member of the Civil Air Patrol since 2011 and acted as Cadet Commander from 2015-2016. She was awarded the Amelia Earhart Award, which is earned only by the top 5 percent of members.
Sarah is active in the community in other ways as exemplified by the charity that she started with her siblings, Kids Helping Kids Fix Broken Hearts, Inc., to benefit kids who are undergoing heart surgery around the world. To date, that charity has raised more than $94,000, solely though the efforts of Sarah and her siblings. Sarah will be departing for the Naval Academy Prep School in July. I hope she keeps us posted as she progresses through her military career. Anchors Aweigh, Sarah!
