Patrick Allen Murphy, 77
Feb. 9, 1939 – May 27, 2016
Pat was born Feb. 9, 1939, to Angus and Matilda (Tilly) Murphy in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he spent his youth.
After high school he served two years in the Army, stationed in Germany. Upon his return he enrolled at the University of Idaho. In 1961, he married Judy Baker and moved to Seattle. There he took a job at Boeing and finished his degree at the University of Washington. They raised their two sons in the house Pat designed and built in Lake Forest Park. He later designed and built a cabin for the family in the San Juan Islands.
After graduating with a degree in accounting, Pat, earned his CPA license. He had a 35-year career with the University of Washington Hospital Division/UW Physicians as Director of Operations, where so many of his co-workers became close friends.
Pat was a true and loyal friend who was generous with his time and talents. Once you were his friend you were a friend for life. The Murphy home was always open for entertaining. Pat was a warm and generous host.
Sports played a big part in Pat’s life: as a youth he played, as a father he coached and as a grandfather he never missed a game.
After he retired he spent several summers with the grandsons teaching them the art of woodworking, boating and sports techniques at the driving range and batting cage at “Camp Grandpa.”
Pat was a proud member of DeMolay, Freemasons and Nile Shriners as well as the Northwest Woodworkers Association.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Judy; son Michael and daughter-in-law Annette; grandsons Sean and Jackson; sister Kathleen (Kitty) Camp; his godparents, Lloyd and Merline Hunter; as well as his large extended family. He was preceded in death by his son, Sean and brother Daniel.
Coming from a long line of Presbyterian Ministers, Pat was a deeply caring, tolerant to a fault Christian man who will be missed.
A celebration of Pat’s life will take place from 5-9 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at the Edmonds Yacht Club, 326 Admiral Way, Edmonds, Wash.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
