SAN DIEGO — The North Idaho Elite high school girls basketball team wrapped up its season 27-5, finishing second in the 90-team Midsummer Night’s Madness AAU tournament on Saturday.

North Idaho Elite beat Cal Sparks Extreme of Clovis, Calif., 53-42, then lost to the Spokane Stars Blue 58-55 in the championship game.

“We’ve had a couple of really good years,” North Idaho Elite assistant coach Carey Carlson said. “Especially this year and last year, because it has been against the best competition on the west coast. And we’ve been a really strong group with players that are within a 30-minute radius, which tells you how strong the area is. The girls are getting recruited really well because of their ability to play against the best from the west coast. It’s good for them, and it’s fun for us to do. It’s something fun to do.”
