Eugene 'Gene' M. Bergman, 82

| July 31, 2016 9:00 PM

Eugene "Gene" M. Bergman passed away without pain on May 20, 2016, at the Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho. Gene was born in St. Maries, Idaho, on Oct. 11, 1933, to Alex and Signe Bergman.

He lived his childhood in St. Maries with his Swedish immigrant parents and siblings where he met his wife of 62 years, Donna Mae Taisey. After high school, Gene enlisted and served in the United States Air Force.

After his discharge from the Air Force, Gene took a job with the Boeing Company working in the Minute Man Missile Program which took his young family to many missile sights in the United States. The family settled in the Seattle area in 1963 where they lived until his retirement in 1990 after 35 years of service.

Retirement brought them back to North Idaho where they built their home of 26 years in Hauser, Idaho. Gene enjoyed tinkering in his shop, fishing and the quieter life that retirement brought.

Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna Bergman; daughter and husband from Spokane Valley, Wash. (Diana and David Langton); son from Salmon, Idaho (Michael Bergman); son from Post Falls, Idaho (Jeffrey Bergman); and son and wife from Turner, Ore. (Lane and Kathy Bergman). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Gene fought a courageous battle with lung cancer since 2010, but sadly eventually lost that battle. He was brought full circle to his final resting place in Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, Idaho, surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in a private goodbye on Father’s Day weekend. He is missed immensely.
