Grocery grabbers
Charges were filed against seven people Tuesday following four separate incidents of theft at Super 1 Foods in Hayden.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, the first call came in just before 1 a.m. when a 17-year-old Hayden youth entered the store to get his "comfort food" — a jar of Nutella — and began eating it without paying. He was later arrested for burglary, theft, giving false information to a law enforcement officer and a curfew violation. Deputies later learned the juvenile shoplifted at Walmart in Hayden prior to entering Super 1 Foods, which led to additional theft charges.
The second call came in around 2 p.m. when the store called to report it had five people detained for theft. When deputies arrived they contacted the five people including an 18-year-old, two 14-year-olds, a 12-year-old and an 8-year-old. The group reportedly stole several beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The 18-year-old was arrested for burglary, theft and encouraging a juvenile to commit a crime, and the 14-year-olds were arrested for burglary and theft. The 12-year-old was charged for theft but not arrested and the 8-year-old was determined not to have committed any crimes. The two youngest were released to their mother.
The third call occurred around 9 p.m. when a 45-year-old man reportedly stole a grocery cart full of food and drinks. The man was arrested for burglary and theft.
Deputies didn't have much time before the next call came in about 9:30 p.m. when a 31-year-old Blanchard woman reportedly entered the store and ate several deli items. According to the sheriff's office, she left the store after paying for several other items, but not what she ate while in the store. The woman was released after deputies issued her a summons charging her with theft.
