ASA SOFTBALL: Xtreme score late to advance at nationals

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Kyla Stern doubled to score Riley Thompson with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the North Idaho Xtreme beat the New Jersey Flames 2-1 in a loser out game at the Premier Girls Fastpitch National tournament at the Fountain Valley Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the Xtreme beat New Jersey Intensity 6-2 and Texas Glory 12-4 in five innings.

“It was an unbelievable day,” North Idaho Xtreme coach Travis Smith said. “The girls fought hard all day and had no quit.”

Against New Jersey, Chloe Falciani went 2 for 2 and Breana Burke struck out four in the win.

Kylie Smith went 3 for 4 with four RBIs in the win against Texas Glory, with Martha Tooley finishing 2 for 4.

Kaylin Donovan drove in the tying run against the New Jersey Flames on a squeeze play in the bottom of the fifth.

The Xtreme enters today’s play tied for 10th with 14 teams remaining, and will face TNT Gold this morning.
