Jeff Hinz, 45
Jeff Hinz passed away peacefully on July 20, 2016, surrounded by his family, at the Hospice House of North Idaho after a long and courageous battle with Stage IV Metastatic Lung Cancer.
Jeff was a father, husband, coach, teacher, friend, brother and son. The most remarkable thing about Jeff was that he was all those things to all people and he never had to shift gears. He demanded excellence, honesty and morality from all he encountered. Whether you were his friend, colleague, player, student, child, fraternity brother or family member; he did not have to change who he was. Because he was true to himself and his values.
Jeff accepted the honor of being the father to his three wonderful children. As he was with everything else in life, he was a model father which we could all look up to. Wednesday, Parker and Journey will miss their father dearly, and carry the life lessons he taught them throughout their lives.
Through teaching and coaching he influenced some of the most prepared young men and women to be a part of our community. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1989 and the University of Idaho in 1994, where he was a proud member of Sigma Nu. Jeff was a teacher and coach for 22 years at Post Falls High School and Middle Schools, and for various youth teams. Jeff spent the last 11 years as the head football coach of his Trojans.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Natalie; daughters Wednesday and Journey; and son Parker; many other supporting family members; thousands of former students and players; and many close friends. Jeff was predeceased by his father, Fred Hinz Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Jeffrey E. Hinz Memorial Fund at any local US Bank. This fund will be used to honor Jeff by updating the Post Falls High School Football field scoreboard in his memory.
The memorial service for Jeff Hinz will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, on the Post Falls High School Football field Friday Night Lights style. A celebration of life will follow at the Greyhound Park Events Center. Extra bleachers will be provided, but if you are one of those fans that prefer to sit on the grass, feel free to bring your chairs and blankets. Jeff requested that everyone represent their team colors or jerseys that affiliated you with him. Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, Vandals, or any others. There will be appetizers provided at the celebration along with a no-host bar. Yates Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
