Indians beat Hawks, take 1st half crown

BOISE — Darius Day doubled to lead off the game and scored two runs as the Spokane Indians beat the Boise Hawks 4-2 on Monday before 1,821 at Memorial Stadium in Northwest League baseball.

Coupled with Tri-City’s 3-0 loss to Hillsboro, the The Indians wrapped up the first-half title of the league’s Northwest Division.

Day got on base as a result of a force out in the third, moved over on a groundout, then took third on Preston Scott’s single. Day scored the run after a throwing error by catcher Campbell Wear on a pickoff attempt.

Scott and Charles LeBlanc each had three hits for Spokane.

Indians starter went five innings, allowing three hits, three walks and two runs with six strikeouts.

Carlos Garay added an RBI single in the eighth for Spokane (19-19)which hosts Tri-City (19-19) tonight at 6:30 at Avista Stadium.
