Smith powers Indians at Boise, into tie for first

BOISE — Chad Smith hit a three-run home run in the top of the third inning and scored three runs to spark the Spokane offense, leading the Indians to a 10-5 win against the Boise Hawks in Northwest League baseball in front of 3,451 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

With Tri-City’s 6-2 loss to Hillsboro, Spokane (18-18) and Tri-City are tiedfor first in the North Division with two games remaining in the first half of the season.

Todd McDonald hit a solo home run in the seventh for Spokane, which finished 7 for 16 with runners in scoring position.

Reid Anderson pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win.

Boise (15-21) has already been eliminated from contention for the first half title in the South Division.

The teams continue the series tonight at 6:15 before wrapping up the first half on Monday night.
