LETTER: Law and order

This is in response to Mr. Boughton’s letter of July 15,
Mr. Boughton:
Your letter was excellent and I agree with your suggestion to “do as you are told” by a police officer.
I did not see in your letter that you said it was the law. Isn’t it the law that a person is legally required to follow the legal order of a law enforcement officer? So, you are legally required to do as you are told. It’s not only smart, but the law. And, your suggestion to take it up with a supervisor or other legal recourse if you disagree with the lawfulness of the order is the only thing that makes good sense — and obviously the safest.
Is my understanding of this correct?
Thank you,
MARY MURDOCK
