FIREWORKS: Convenience is key

To the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce:

We are property owners and part-time residents of Coeur d’Alene and were prompted to write this letter in response to the editorial in the July 17 issue of The Press.

We appreciate and enjoy the annual fireworks display presented in the city. We are willing to make a contribution to help cover the costs for the display. Please accept the enclosed check to apply to the 2016 deficit or for the 2017 fireworks display.

For people to contribute, we would suggest that collection points be well publicized and convenient. We were aware that contributions were being solicited, but did not know where to send a check. At the location where we were watching the parade, the “bucket brigade” raced by on skates. Some people called out to the skaters but were not heard and therefore did not place any cash in the buckets.

We don’t have the answers, but possibly posters around town giving locations accepting contributions and a walking bucket brigade visiting with the crowd (and making more than one pass). These suggestions would be especially helpful to visitors as well as part-time and new residents who are not aware of the funding source for the fireworks.
