CLASSES: Yes, size matters

| July 24, 2016 9:00 PM

On Ron Deady’s idea that foreign nation class sizes of 40 to 60 students would work here is ridiculous because other nations’ FAMILY culture with higher test scores value education more than we do.

There? “You will be successful in school and you will like it!”

Here? “You will raise my delinquent’s grade and you will like it!”

I am sixth of 10 children, so my situation may be more similar to present day single parent/child ratios. Parents are finite creatures and kids will avoid hard work if they can.

So I faked it in 30+ student fifth grade at West Valley’s Millwood elementary and couldn’t even do long division.

But I couldn’t hide in a class of 12 in sixth grade at Northwest Christian (NWC) and learned math well at grade level. Or else!

Seventh grade at NWC? back to 30+ students and my mediocrity resumed.

But sixth grade was my pivotal year and I ended up earning a B.S. in industrial management and an M.A. in theology.

Class size matters! Bigger classes are not better.

Changing schools to Delinquent Daycare Centers is not a good idea, Ron.
