Timberlake

hires boys

basketball,

baseball coaches

SPIRIT LAKE — Longtime AAU and select basketball coach Michael Scott has been named Timberlake High boys basketball coach, and former Timberlake assistant Cameron Knigge has been tabbed as Tigers’ head baseball coach.

Timberlake athletic director Jim Simpson said both hires are contingent on approval by the Lakeland school board, which meets Aug. 8.

Scott replaces Tony Hanna, who left Timberlake after five seasons to coach the boys basketball team at Coeur d’Alene High.

Scott has coached AAU and select basketball teams for more than 15 years, including time with the Spokane Stars and Spokane Swish.

“I’ve had a lot of my boys move on to play in college,” Scott said. “I’ve helped out with the program on occasion, but just kind of with summer stuff. When I’d heard Tony had gotten the Coeur d’Alene job, he told me I hope you apply for it. I’m sure his input really helped a lot.”

His son Keegan graduated from Timberlake in 2014. His daughter, Zoe, graduated from University High in Spokane in 2010. Both went on to play at The Master’s College, an NAIA in Santa Clarita, Calif.

“Basketball is kind of my passion,” Michael Scott said. “I’d applied for a few jobs in the past, but after this one was offered, it was a great fit. This is a great group of boys and I really wanted to be a part of it.”

“He is highly respected for his basketball knowledge and his ability to develop players, many of which have gone on to play college basketball,” Simpson said. “Coach Scott has coached many of our current players and has been involved in developing our youth programs.”

Knigge has been an assistant coach at Timberlake the past two seasons and is currently in his second season coaching the Northern Lakes Short A Legion team. Knigge comes from a baseball family with his father Kent and brothers Kasey, Kyle and Tyler all former players at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston. Knigge’s brother Tyler currently pitches in the Seattle Mariners’ minor league system.

Knigge replaces Matt George, who left the district to become the athletic director at Priest River High.
