Indians hold off S-K

SPOKANE — Sal Mendez struck out five in five innings and Kaleb Fontenot struck out the side in the ninth, helping the Spokane Indians beat the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 4-3 in Northwest League baseball in front of 6,813 at Avista Stadium on Friday.

Seth Spivey hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to tie the game for Spokane (13-16), which then took the lead on an RBI double by Stephen Lohr, who later scored on a single by Brailan Perez.

Salem-Keizer (13-16) opened the scoring in the first inning on a two-run home run by Bryan Reynolds.

The teams conclude the five-game series tonight at 6:30.
