Sleuthing at the show
Dust off your pony skirts and black leather jackets for the Coeur d’Alene Murder Mystery Theatre’s production “Greased at the Grill,” a fun and interactive murder mystery set in the late 1950s. The show will be held at Coeur d’Alene Cellars from 6-9 p.m. on July 22, 28, 29 and Aug. 5.
The audience will act as guests at a 1950s barbecue set in the backyard of Tom Dooley, owner of a local car dealership in Kansas City. Murder will hit as the grill is sizzling, and audience members will get to help police find the culprit.
“What is great about these shows is how the audience gets to interact with the players, who are right next to them in many cases while performing,” said Tracey Vaughan, co-producer of the mystery theater shows. “They get to ask questions, play games, and converse with the suspects in-between the main scenes.”
All guests will have a chance to guess “who did it” before the killer is revealed, and those who guess correctly will be put into a drawing toward the grand prize: a wine-tasting for six at the Coeur d’Alene Cellars. Guests are encouraged to dress up and those who do will get a second chance to guess.
“It makes the whole atmosphere of the evening more fun when they [the audience members] dress up. With this kind of interactive theater, audiences can feel like a part of the performance,” said Brook Bassett, Vaughan’s partner and co-producer.
“We are hoping to see all kinds of 1950s gear at the show. It has been great to see how far people will go to dress the part at our past events,” Vaughan added.
Coeur d’Alene Murder Mystery Theatre has been performing at Coeur d’Alene Cellars for the past three summers. Vaughan said they intend to expand into the fall and winter seasons beginning this year.
