Driving emphasis a success
The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Idaho Transportation Department's Office of Highway Safety, handed out 52 speeding citations and apprehended 21 fugitives, among other contact, during a 10-day traffic enforcement focused on impaired, aggressive and distracted driving.
The "100 to Zero" traffic enforcement took place from June 10 through June 20 with the goal of reducing crashes and injuries through education, enforcement and public outreach.
The following are the results from the 10-day period:
• Total contacts: 558
• DUI arrests: 12
• Underage alcohol violations: 3
• Seat belt citations: 2
• Felony arrests: 15
• Recovered stolen vehicles: 1
• Fugitives apprehended: 21
• Uninsured motorists: 35
• Suspended driver's license: 18
• Speeding citations: 52
• Reckless driving citations: 2
• Inattentive driving citations: 3
• Motorcycles endorsement citations: 1
• Possession of marijuana: 13
• Possession of paraphernalia: 26
