Deland 'Del' J. Romine, 84
Deland “Del” J. Romine, 84, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away July 4, 2016, at the Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Del was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Buckhannon, W.Va., to Ray and Ada (Mick) Romine. Del was raised in Buckhannon where he attended and graduated from Buckhannon High School in 1949, and continued his education while serving in the Air Force from 1951 to 1971, retiring as a MSGT.
After his honorable discharge, Del moved to the Pacific Northwest where he attended and graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1972. He then worked for the Washington State Department of Corrections as a Parole Officer from 1972 to 1993. During that time he earned a master’s degree in sociology and correctional work from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash.
Del first married Ruth Heckert in 1951 in West Virginia. Together they had four children. He later married Barbara Hall on Jan. 1, 1983. They were married 33 years when Del passed. Together they enjoyed traveling, spending summers at their Hayden home and winters at their Sun City, Ariz., home.
Del was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Post Falls, Idaho, and also the First Methodist Church in Sun City, Ariz. He loved all his family, as well as golfing, boating, shuffleboard, and drinking coffee and eating doughnuts every morning with his cronies. Del felt he had a great life and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Romine of the family home in Hayden; three children Dave A. Romine of Chesterfield, Mo., Teresa Smith of Post Falls, Idaho, and Scott Romine of Coeur d’Alene; one sister, Marlene Trivandian of Arizona; one brother, Don Romine of Buckhannon, W.Va.; five grandchildren Lisa Nash, Jackie Vasquez, Dan Romine, Katy Romine and Jeremy Romine; one great-granddaughter, Kaylin Vasquez; three stepchildren, seven step grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren. Del was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Jill Wood.
A celebration of Del’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Peace Lutheran Church, 8134 N. Meyer Road, Post Falls, Idaho.
