Barron wins Lilac golf tournament

Derek Barron of Lakewood, Wash., shot an even-par 72 on Sunday in windy conditions en route to a four-shot victory at the 53th Lilac City Invitational golf tournament at The Fairways at West Terrace, just outside Cheney.

Barron shot 68-64-65-72—269, 19-under par, and took home the $8,000 first-place check.

Kevin PomArleau (67-65-68-73—273) of East Wenatchee, Wash., and Shane Prante (67-68-67-71—273) of Tacoma tied for second.

Eddie Heinen of Hayden was the top local finisher, shooting 72-77-70-76—295, 7 over par, and came in 14th.

Russell Grove of Hayden, who won the Lilac in 2013, shot 73-71-71-84—299 and tied for 15th with a pair of Coeur d’Alene golfers, Jason Kimmel (74-75-75-75—299) and Joshua Grenier (72-75-71-81—299).

Among amateurs, Cameron Flores of Post Falls finished third in the championship flight, shooting 73-77-72-80—302. Braden McKay of Rossland, British Columbia, shot 72-73-74-78—297 to win by four strokes.
