CEMETERY: Keep it sacred

| July 10, 2016 9:00 PM

This letter is written in regard to an article in Thursday’s Press.

Bethany Mikolas owes the city an apology. I personally don’t think the cemetery is an appropriate place for friends and family to meet in the evening, picnic, visit and watch the fireworks on the Fourth of July. The cemetery is a sacred place. My mom and dad are buried there and I appreciate it that the cemetery staff protect it by a lockup on special occasions.

The cemetery staff do a wonderful job taking care of our cemeteries, keeping them in tip-top landscape appearance, putting flags out on special occasions. Coeur d’Alene residents observe the signs — no alcohol or dogs and the big sign that states what a cemetery represents.

You and your family had all day to visit your grandson’s grave so I think that you should know that Riverside Cemetery is not a place to have fun and watch the fireworks. Where is your respect for other families’ loved ones who are buried there?

Next year, visit during the day and take your friends and picnic to the city park to watch the fireworks like everyone else. Mr. Greenwood, please keep doing your lockups. I appreciate them!
