Jane Becker, 93
Jane Becker, 93, passed away and went to be with Jesus on July 5, 2016, at her home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Jane was born to Christopher and Florence Comben on Jan. 29, 1923, in Portsmouth, England.
She grew up in Bournemouth, England, where she eventually became a nurse. She was a young woman during the second world war witnessing much destruction and the loss of the family home. Jane came to the United States on Aug. 1, 1957.
She is survived by her husband, CR Becker of Coeur d’Alene; children Sandra Kalajian of Simi Valley, Calif., Richard Girling of Merlin, Ore., Michelle Monti of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Glen and Don Becker of Las Vegas, Nev.; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Jane married CR on Oct. 16, 1972, while living in Las Vegas. She owned and operated a women’s clothing store in Las Vegas called “The Orange Lion.” When they moved to Coeur d’Alene, she attended Lake City Lighthouse with her husband, CR, until medical and physical problems kept her away.
She was an avid knitter all her life. It was once estimated that she had knitted approximately 2,300 miles of yarn in her lifetime, supplying booties and dishcloths for all her friends and loved ones, plus dozens of other knitted articles. She was always first to volunteer a dinner or helping hand to anyone in need, including homeless people she would track down. She was generous to all and the life of the party wherever she went, always smiling. She was compassionate and had a special heart for the downtrodden and handicapped. She was the best cook in the world and every meal was practically gourmet. No one ever stepped across her threshold, but that they were offered a cup of tea. She loved flowers and always said “if you want to send flowers please send them while I can see them, not after I’m gone.”
At her request, no service will be held. Her wishes were to scatter her ashes along some beautiful green area overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
